Let the Worshippers Go First

David was a worshipper. He was also a shepherd. When it came time to kill Goliath, God chose David to finish the job (1 Samuel 17). Why? David was a worshipper. When confronted by his brothers and overlooked by the king, David persisted in his call to be a worshipping leader at a time his world needed it the most.

Mary of Bethany, too, proved to be a pivotal worshipper (Matthew 26). She poured out all that she had at Jesus' feet. When confronted by Jesus' disciples, she hid under Jesus' defense of her role: "She did it to prepare me for my burial. Wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." (v.12-13, NIV)

In 2 Chronicles 20:21 we read another stunning example of God choosing worshippers to do the valiant, forerunning work in a battle:

After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.” (NIV)

Goliath fell. Jesus was glorified even in His death. God delivered Judah from the hands of their enemies. All by the hands of worshippers, not fighting with strength or might or human cunning, but praising God for what He alone could accomplish. Our hands ought to be applauding God ahead of time for what only His hand can accomplish.

In your home, how can you let the worshippers go first? As you consider the tumult of your community and world, how can you and your household stand? Perhaps God's message to you is that which David penned under God's anointing:

Trust in him at all times, O people

Pour out your hearts to him

God is our refuge (Psalm 62:8, NIV)

Learn to take your stand at the head of the battle you may be facing today. Applaud God for what only He can do. Crank up the worship music, and sound the alarm: "This is God's battle!" Watch what God will do for you and for your world!
