“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” –
Esther 4:14 (ESV)
The story of Esther and Mordecai is more than a historical account—it is a model for
today’s families and for those who disciple the next generation. Together, they changed
the destiny of a nation. Today, God is calling your family and you, as a disciple-maker to
step into His purpose for such a time as this.
Mordecai was more than a relative to Esther—he was a mentor. He walked with her,
prepared her, guided her, and taught her. He was a voice of truth when fear threatened to
silence her. He saw in her what she could not yet see in herself.
In a moment of great danger, Mordecai did not remain silent. He called Esther to rise, to
believe that her life had purpose, and that God had positioned her precisely for that
moment in history.
Today, families need spiritual leaders fathers, mothers, grandparents, and mentors, who
speak life, identity, and courage into the next generation; who walk with them, teach
them, guide them, and shepherd them, even when the world around them feels
uncertain.
As a parent or mentor, are you speaking into the calling of your children or disciples? Do
your words help them see themselves as God sees them?
Esther was placed in the palace, not for comfort, but for her calling. Though it could have
cost her everything, she chose to intercede for her people. She fasted, prayed, and walked
boldly into the king’s court not in her own strength, but in faith and obedience.
Today, God is raising up Esther-like hearts in our homes and churches: children and youth
who love the Lord deeply, who pray boldly, and who desire to make a difference in this
generation. Even if it costs them everything, they are willing.
But that kind of courage is cultivated in safe environments homes and discipleship
relationships where truth is spoken, where faith is lived out daily, where Mordecai’s know
their purpose, invest in others, and refuse to stay silent; where Esthers know they cannot
walk alone, and lean on the support of the Mordecai in their lives.
Are we preparing our children, youth, and kids to stand for truth and intercede for
others? Are we modeling a life of prayer, faith, and total dependence on God?
Just like Mordecai, mentors today are called to be intentional, prayerful, and present. Few
ways we can actively disciple and equip the next generation:
Speak Identity and Purpose: Remind children and youth who they are in Christ. Tell them
what you see in them God-given gifts, compassion, leadership, boldness, and help them
recognize their calling.
Encourage Boldness: Equip them not only to believe but to act to pray for others, to speak
truth, to stand for justice, to serve boldly, and to carry God’s presence wherever they go.
Stay Close: Mentors don’t just speak once they walk alongside. Keep showing up. Be
available. Pray for them daily. Your consistency will speak louder than a thousand
sermons.
God is still writing stories of redemption, courage, and purpose through families who say
“yes” to Him. This is a time for Esthers to rise and for Mordecai to speak. It’s time for
families, leaders, and disciples to walk together in prayer, purpose, faith, and courage.
God has positioned your family for this moment in history. He is calling you to stand firm,
to pray, and to believe that through your home, His light will shine.
But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord…..for such a time as this.
