He Is the Center

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:16–17 (ESV)
Perhaps this year has not turned out the way you expected. Maybe you received an unexpected “no,” faced a closed door, financial problems, illness, job loss, or broken relationships. In those seasons, it is easy to feel adrift, like a ship without direction in the middle of the sea.
And then a very honest question arises: Where is my trust placed?
We often say with conviction: “Christ is the center of my life, my family, and everything I do.” But if we are honest, many times our hearts do not reflect that truth. If Christ is truly the Center, why do I still worry? Why do I get stressed? Why do I carry a burden on my shoulders that belongs only to God?
With our minds we believe that Jesus is the Center, but with our daily decisions we displace Him. We live as if everything depended on us, instead of resting in the fact that “in him all things hold together” (Col. 1:17). Worry arises when we forget that God upholds all things. Stress comes when we trust more in our own understanding than in His direction. That is why Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
God knows our struggles and our tendency to worry. That is why He speaks tenderly to us and reminds us:
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life… your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” (Matthew 6:25–32)
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Saying that Christ is the Center is not just a nice phrase; it is a way of life. It means that:
He guides our decisions: Before acting, we seek His will.
He sustains our emotions: When everything seems chaotic, we rest in His peace.
He directs our priorities: Whatever we do, we do it for His glory.
He carries our burdens: We acknowledge that we are not in control, and we surrender everything to Him.
When Jesus is at the center, our circumstances do not disappear, but they shift their place in our hearts. They no longer occupy the axis of our lives, because that place belongs only to Christ.
Today the Lord wants to remind you: He desires to be the Center of your life. When He is, He becomes your peace, your strength, and your guide. You no longer carry the burden alone, because you rest in His love. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
It is not enough to say that Christ is the Center—we need to decide to remain in Him every day. Abiding in Christ is not a passive action. It means staying connected to the Vine through prayer, the study of the Word, and worship. When we do this, we discover that we are not alone: we experience deeper intimacy with God, freedom from sin, and a joy that cannot be taken away.
Abiding is a decision. Choose today to keep Jesus as the Center of it all.
